This range of floors is generally known as a layered parquet or engineered floor. The floor is manufactured from several layers of timber assembled so that the grains of each layer are perpendicular to each other in order to balance out any internal stresses and thus produce a more stable product - thus the term engineered.
The top wear layer, is the "show" wood of desired species whilst the rest of the floor is generally manufactured from a renewable resource timber such as pine, poplar or rubberwood to name a few.
This type of floor is thus highly recommended for its environmental friendliness.
The upper layer is typically 3.6 mm thick although many variants between 2 mm and 6 mm are to be found. Dimensions vary between suppliers whilst surface finishes range from the traditional to highly fashionable - the options are endless.
A further advantage of these floors is that they can be installed by either floating them on top of a suitable underlay, by stapling to a ply base or gluing them to the substrate.
At Rhoms Timberworld we try to provide a wide choice of available floors at all times and the following pages show some of the timbers and ranges currently in stock.
